Tell us about yourself

I am a Ugandan Gospel Artist specializing in dancehall, reggae, and ragga genres of music. I am a husband and a father to two daughters. I am the director and founder of a Youth Empowerment Non-Government Organisation – Yimba Uganda and director of Backyard Audio and Visual production studios and Backyard Music – Record label.

What inspired your stage name?
My life testimony! Coopy Bly means miraculous chance or favor.

When did u get saved and which church do you go to?
I grew up in a Christian family but I personally made the decision to dedicate my life to Christ a number of times while I was young. I am a member of Heaven Bound Church in Katwe.

When did you start singing?
I have been singing for as early as I can remember. However, while in Primary five, I was given a role to be the scout troop leader and lead campfire songs at Scout camps. . I was appraised by my colleagues and when I returned to school that year, I joined the school choir.  Two years later, during my Primary seven Vacation, I recorded my first song ‘Shiny Money’  in Dream Studios.

Have you received any awards or nominations?
Yes, I have, and I give all the glory back to God. Some of the awards include,
  • Make Artist of the year Olive gospel awards 2012
  • Video of the year( What a love)& Reggae artist of the year(Nkulembera Mukama) Viga Awards 2015
  • Make artist of the year HitAwards 2016
  • Video of the year(Wakayima) Viga awards 2018
  • HiPipo Awards Trailblazer (Wakayima)2018/2019
  • Male Artist of the year Vine awards 2021

Besides singing do you have any other work you do?I am the director and founder of Yimba Uganda a youth empowerment nongovernmental organization. I also operate  Backyard Audio and Visual production studios and Backyard Music – Record label in which i am also a director.

Do you have any turning point that led you to the person you are today?
I grew up with a very humble background in Katwe without much, so I feel I owe all my achievements to God including the music that I Ido, hence the name Coopy Bly.

Ever thought of switching to secular music?
No Way Nah!

How have you developed your music career?
It’s been a long journey, with lots of learning curves, but I wouldn’t say I have any regrets, because there is always something to learn in every curve – even the negative ones.

How many Albums do you have or EPs?
I have 3 albums and several singles

What challenges have you faced as a gospel music artist and how have you solved them?
Gospel Music is not as financially rewarding as it ought to be, yet the expenses in producing Audio and videos including marketing and promotion are exactly the same as secular artists. Eventually, gospel artists hustle a lot with the little we have. However, God always makes a way.

How do you see your career in the next decade?
I believe I will have produced several new albums, have reached out to places I haven’t yet been and I pray that my message will only keep growing deeper than it is today.

Any advice to artists that aspire to be like you?
Know the Lord you serve, do the best you can in your ability and leave the rest to him.
