As part of a renewed effort in securing the future of Children in homes and communities, the church has come up with a Guide on Positive Parenting. This is in addition to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development’s National Parenting Guidelines.

Which is in line with the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee sitting in December 2019 at the Provincial Secretariat that resolved that 2020 continues to be the Year for Children, with Church of Uganda focusing on addressing issues that affect the welfare of Children in the Country.

This Parenting Guide was launched this month of October 2020 by the Minister of State for Youth and Children Hon Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi and the Archbishop of Church of Uganda The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu from the Archbishop’s Palace Gardens in Namirembe under a Theme ‘Take Care of this Child’ Exodus 2:9 continues to guide us.

It’s intention was to bring out the plight of Children so that they can grow up knowing that they are cherished and loved by the Heavenly Father and the Church that serves him.

The focus this Year is on ‘Positive Parenting’ to strengthen the Family and encourage Children’s Work and Ministry especially with the coming of the COVID -19 pandemic which created unavoidable situation that has affected the whole world leading the closure of Schools and Churches in the Country to-date. Children in Uganda remain at risk in this period of COVID 19.

Children are affected by the conflicts in homes especially now due to limited food and other supplies.

Most adults are not earning to sustain their homes. Recent Uganda Police and various Media reports have confirmed serious abuse, neglect, violence and much more on Children / Youth and Women. Our Children and Youth need our prayers and action for protection and provision.

These guidelines have been developed with support from our Partners, Ministry Organs as Mothers’ Union, Fathers’ Union and Christian Women’s Fellowships, Parents/Guardians/Care-Givers, Communities and all Stakeholders.

The Coordnator of Children’s Ministry in Church of Uganda Rev. Richard Rukundo remains upbeat that this Positive Parenting Guide will bring positive transformation in families and subsequently morally upright and God glorifying Children.
