General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye, has declared his support for youth in the ongoing peaceful protest against Police Brutality in Nigeria.
“Our daughters will not be able to prophesy and young men will not see visions if we don’t keep them alive.” the famous cleric wrote on Twitter, “I support the youths in this peaceful protest as they “speak up” to #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSARS #ENDSWAT”
His reaction was further contained in a statement on Wednesday night, signed by Pastor Johnson F Odesola, the Assistant General Overseer (Administration and Personnel), that the RCCG supports Nigerians protesting against police brutality and demanded for a restructuring of the Police Force.
The statement added that “the church welcomes the disbandment of the SARS, and notes the establishment of a new outfit called The Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), but advises that it should not become a case of old wine in a new bottle.”
Earlier this year, on February 2nd, 2020 Pastor Adeboye led a prayer walk protest along with other members of his church to draw the attention of the Government to unnecessary killings in the country.
Meanwhile, other respected Men of God have made their presence felt in the current #EndSars Campaign dominating the headlines in Nigeria. Global Lead Pastor of the Elevation Church, Godman Alabi, shared a photo via his Instagram handle condemning the increase of Police Brutality in the country alongside fellow Lead Pastor of Global Impact Church, Yemi Davids in the one going protest.
Godman Alabi also shared a video of his protest campaign alongside other Nigerian youths to the office of AIG’s in Onikan Lagos. “This time around we can’t afford to be neutral in the killings, extortions, police brutality, unjust arrest, poor welfare package of police officers, etc, for if we do we’ve chosen to be complicit,” he wrote.
