ENTEBBE – Born-again Church leaders were among hundreds who attended the annual thanksgiving ceremony hosted by President Museveni and the First Lady Janet Museveni at State House in Entebbe.
These included Dr Godfrey Kamese and his wife Edith Kamese of Praise Cathedral – Ntinda, Dr Joseph Serwadda of Victory Christian Centre Ndeeba, Bishop David Livingstone Kiganda of Christianity Focus Ministries and Dr. Bishop Joshua Lwere, the senior pastor of Grace Assembly Church among others.
President Museveni used the occasion to showcase some of his achievements as head of state, but cited corruption among the major problems Uganda is facing, and said “we are committed to ending it.”
“I can guarantee you we shall defeat corruption. I recently made some announcements but will dwell more on this subject in my New Year message,” he said.
“Uganda is beginning to go over the hill after we started from a low base in 1986. We have been trying to get up the hill but with a firm foundation now, the movement uphill is faster and easier,” he added.
The ceremony was conducted under the theme drawn from Psalms 133:1 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in Unity”.
Dr. Barry Lenhardt, the guest preacher, led attendees in prayer for the country’s prosperous future.
He is a certified International Life Coach and Co-Founder of Living Life By Design, a multi-module workshop created to help people discover their purpose and live from their original and unique design.
Dr. Barry also oversees International Life Center, a nondenominational teaching ministry and training center.
He prayed for Uganda to become a model country for the world.
“Uganda is not meant to only lead Africa, but the whole world,” he said.
Dr. Barry called upon Ugandans to unite, noting that “division always unites darkness.”
Hon Cecilia Atim Ogwal prayed for corruption “to fall and wickedness to be burnt down.”
“2019 will be a better year. This is going to be a clean nation,” she said.
Other guests at the ceremony included Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Deputy Inspector General of Government, Mr. George Bamugemereire, Security Minister Elly Tumwine, Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah, Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema, head of the new State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Justice James Manage Ogoola, Minister of Kampala Betty Kamya, Justice Catherine Bamugemereire among others.
