Kampala, Uganda – Renowned pastor and acid attack survivor, Umar Mulinde, is currently in critical condition at Sheba Medical Centre in Tel Aviv, Israel. His family and church confirmed the news on Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Mulinde, the senior pastor of Gospel Life Church International, has been battling respiratory issues since a brutal acid attack in December 2011 left him severely disfigured. His mother, Joweria Namugga, revealed that her son had recently been placed on a ventilator to assist with breathing difficulties. While he has since been removed from the ventilator, his condition remains grave.
Pastor John Famba, Mulinde’s assistant, explained that the decision to seek treatment in Israel was made after a virtual consultation with the pastor’s previous medical team. Given the specialized care required, Mulinde was admitted to Sheba Medical Centre for intensive treatment, including multiple surgeries.
The attack on Mulinde, a prominent Christian leader and humanitarian, sent shockwaves through the nation. Known for his fervent preaching and dedication to helping the vulnerable, especially former Muslims and orphans, Mulinde’s life was irrevocably changed that fateful day.
Despite the physical and emotional trauma, Mulinde exhibited remarkable resilience, undergoing extensive reconstructive surgery in Israel in 2014. He returned to Uganda, continuing his ministry and establishing the Apostle Umar Mulinde Foundation to support the elderly, widows, and children.
The nation is now united in prayer for Pastor Mulinde’s recovery as he faces this new health battle.
