President Yoweri Museveni met with senior leaders of the Orthodox Church in Uganda at State Lodge, Nakasero, to celebrate the Church’s 25-year milestone in the country. The delegation, led by Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda, Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, thanked Museveni for his support and the freedom to establish and expand their religious mission.
The Church leaders recounted their journey, which began 25 years ago with land acquired from the Ethiopian Orthodox community already present in Uganda. They reaffirmed their dedication to promoting peace, unity, and community service, pledging to support values that enhance harmony and national progress.
Museveni warmly received the delegation, reiterating Uganda’s commitment to Pan-Africanism as a cornerstone of its approach to unity, cooperation, and development. “Our policy is Pan-Africanism. Any African who comes to live or work here is welcome,” he stated, emphasizing the oneness of African people in economic, social, and sometimes political spheres. He stressed that Uganda is a home for all Africans who respect its laws and contribute positively.
The president also warned against religious conflicts, underscoring the need for peaceful coexistence among faiths. “This is your home unless you break the law. We do not tolerate conflicts between religions. You cannot claim to serve God while fighting other faiths,” Museveni remarked.
