Israella Chris, the daughter of Ugandan gospel singers Pastor Myco Chris and Gwendolyn Mukuku, on 29th December won the sixth season of The Voice Kids, a British singing competition TV series.
The contest involves young aspiring singers aged seven to 14.
On her way to victory, Israella was coached by 31-year-old English singer and songwriter Pixie Lott. Also under Lott’s guidance were contestants Eva Norton, Lacey, and Tommy Featherstone.
Israella beat three other finalists; Tawana McGrath (coached by American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer will.i.am), Sebastian (coached by Irish singer Ronan Keating) and odd Dachtler (coached by an English singer-songwriter and musician Danny Jones)
According to Bryan Morel Publications, Israella’s family encouraged her to audition for the competition and they will have been delighted to see her eventually announced the winner by host Emma Willis.
Even more impressed will have been her coach Lott, at whose wedding the young Ugandan singing sensation performed in June 2022.
On top of a monetary prize, the winner also gets a family holiday – and this time, it will be a trip to the Universal Orlando Resort, an American theme park based in Orlando, Florida.
Amid a shower of confetti when her name was announced, Israella thanked everyone for fuelling belief in her and said she she hoped she had made them proud.
Pointing at her three fellow finalists, she said: “I want to thank these guys over here. You guys brought the fire this year!”
The teenage winner’s family then stormed the stage to embrace her in a moment of pure elation.
