The return of VIGA Awards (Victoria Gospel Academy) after a recess of 2 years has come up with a number of honoraries and innovative mega changes to the Gospel Awards arena, with over 37 categories to vote for, this year’s awards will stand to honor artists and musicians who have influenced and made significant contributions in not only the Ugandan Music industry but Africa as well.
Legendary gospel artist Fiona Wamala Mukasa will receive the “Legends Award” which will be handed to her at the celebrations at Kampala Serena Hotel on 10th July 2022. The Ugandan UK-based Fiona Mukasa is known for her famous gospel hits Bisuule, Yannyamba, We Conquer, Tugume, Stand Firm, and Ekimu Ekyekkumi to mention but a few.
The daughter of Uganda’s oldest music icon Elishama Wamala ‘ever green’ was so big that she inspired the current gospel singers’ generation of the likes of Judith Babirye, Wilson Bugembe, Levixone and Exodus.
Other icons to receive honorary accolades for supporting the Ministry include Janet, Salmsa and Bishop Joshua Lwere.
About the VIGA Awards
The VIGA Music Awards is Uganda’s premier Christian Music Awards, an annual experience and process of spotting, recognizing, establishing, appreciating and celebrating outstanding Christian/Gospel music talents & achievements. It climaxes at a Grand Red Carpet Dinner Concert, the most prestigious and most sought-after Christian music event of the year. The event collects various high-profile personalities and celebrities including clerics, artists, music & media executives, diplomats, politicians, corporate and business leaders among others.
The Awards were conceived in 1998 and launched on 1st May, 2006. The first Awards event took place on 24th June, 2007 at the Kampala Serena Victoria Hall. The VIGA Music Awards federates with and is managed in collaboration with the Federation of Gospel Artists of Uganda (FGAU) and VIGA Academy.
