Famously known as MC Kats, Edwin Katamba a Ugandan TV personality wants God to use him, and also give him a fresh start in life.
While at the Worship House located in Nansana, Kats said he wants to positively inspire youth, most especially those caught up in an endless and compulsive cycle of drug addiction.
Social media was recently awash with articles that described him as “emotionally unstable” and “mentally ill” ever since he came out on his HIV-positive status.
“People have branded me as one mentally ill, but that is not true. I’m 36 years, and have 6 children,” Kats started his speech at the born-again Church led by Pastor Wilson Bugemebe on 19th January, 2020.
Asked why he disclosed his HIV status, Kats said, “God allowed me.”
“Those I have grown up with know about it. However, when I went to London, I don’t know why, but all I did was cry during one show, saying, ‘thank you God’. When I returned to Uganda one ‘Uncut’ show presenter asked to interview me. He wanted to find out why I cried during the London shows. Truth is, I did not plan to disclose my status. Nevertheless, I was tired of keeping it off,” he said.
MC Kats started his TV career while at WBS at the age of 14.
He has had the HIV virus for about 13 years, and doctors in London described him as a walking ‘miracle’ after finding his CD4 count critically low, a threshold for heightened risk of death.
Bugembe who once studied with MC Kats revealed how the prominent entertainment figure was once a Scripture Union leader in high school for 3 years. on top of that, his mother is also a devoted preacher.
“I got saved. I have had God at heart, and always heard what you preach. I have always feared attending prayer services for fear of being judged,” MC Kats told Bugembe.
Asked why he finally turned to Church after a long while, MC Kats said: “Born-again [Christians] are not mad people, that is why I came here.” “I want to do God’s will.”
“I have land that has been idle for 7 years, but you can build a church there,” MC Kats said. “Wait to do that,” Bugembe responded.
“We are going to pray with you.”Bugembe continued. “I also believe rehab was not a bad idea.” “Jesus loves you. I wish you well. You were part of Scripture Union, but slipped away. Jesus offers you an opportunity to return to Him today. He is able to heal all manner of disease where medical means have failed.”
Pastor Bugembe asked MC Kats if there is a decision he ‘regrets to this day’.
“I wish I stayed in Church,” he answered.
“I got whatever I was looking for [in the world], but gained nothing. I have slept around, consumed alcohol, stayed out in clubs and boarded the plane. There is nothing much I gained from it all. I have wasted so many years,” he said.
