Christian Pastor and founder of Christ Witness Ministries, Dr. Abed Bwanika is pushing for a total lockdown of the country “for at least 14 days” to break the chain of transmission of the Coronavirus.
Bwanika, who is also a member of parliament for Kimanya-kabonera constituency in Masaka implored the government Saturday to ensure massive vaccination in Covid hotspots.
Uganda recently experienced an increase in Covid-19 cases by 131%, forcing the country to close among other schools and Churches. Public transport, markets, hotels, and restaurants were allowed to continue operations amid strict measures to curb the spread of the virus.
“Government of Uganda must with urgency enforce total lockdown of the entire nation for at least 14 days,” Dr Abed Bwanika said in an Update. “[Vaccinate] 50 – 60% of the population in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono urgently…. if not we prepare for the worst,” he added.
This week, the nation’s Covid-19 death toll eclipsed 400 with health officials warning that civil disobedience towards mounted restrictions could escalate positive cases.
Notably, the recent spike has come from young adults with clusters of infections being traced to leaning institutions. Other clusters of infections have come from health care workers, intensive care units and isolation centers, according to sources.
No explanation has been given specifically for Uganda’s surge in cases, however several Church leaders are encouraging prayer.
