Kampala – A finalist at Uganda Christian University has been confirmed dead after the collapse of the Fido Dido building Monday March 15, Red Pepper Digital reports.
The university administration confirmed the passing of one of their students in an official communique channeled through their social media accounts on Tuesday morning
“It is on a sad note that we announce the death of Asimwe Lorita Blessy, a final year student of Ba. Human Resource Management. She was one of the victims of the Fidodido building collapse yesterday (Monday),” read a tweet.
Ms Asiimwe was one of the congregators of the House of Rest Ministries Church attending the Lunch Hour prayers when the ceiling caved-in.
The genesis of the incident.
Over 30 Christian congregants were Injured in the accident that saw the HOUSE OF REST fellowship ceiling falling through the auditorium. This is a fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Isaac Kyobe Kiwewesi of Kansanga Miracle centre Church.
This incident happened on Monday 15th March 2021 during a lunch hour prayer meeting that is usually conducted in Kampala.
According to an eye witness and survivor from the accident, the accident occured as the church electrician climbed up the ceiling to fix the electric problem after abrupt power shortage during the service .
This incident left at least 30 people injured, 13 in critical condition and one person confirmed dead.
”The police working with other stakeholders are trying to ascertain the cause of the ceiling collapsing and you will inform the public in due course”
On the other hand,the building was condoned off by Kampala City Authority while the landLord and pastor of the House of arrest church were summoned to record statements in this regard. all businesses operating on this building have been closed.
It should be noted that the building whose ceiling collapsed is an ancient building in the city and also houses the famous FIDO DIDO Ice Cream parlour.
Pastors from different churches have sent their thoughts and prayers to Kansanga Miracle Center Church on their social media channels. To appreciate their support, the management of Rest Tv, Kansanga Miracle Center and House of Rest Fellowship issued a statement.
“Thank you family for standing with us in this trying moment, all the care and love shown is highly welcomed. The situation is fine and was protected by the hand of the Most High God. We’re not ceasing to pray and to fight the enemy, stay on Rest T.V and all our social media platforms we shall come to you to live in all our services.’
