Ugandan gospel musician and Pastor David Bweyinda is encouraging born-again Church leaders not to be intimidated by the coronavirus pandemic.
During a Facebook Live broadcast, Bweyinda stated that the Pentecostal Church must stand as a “prophetic voice” for the nation, and “demonstrate the power of God.”
“When the Church is not the solution in times like these, tell me where the solution is going to come from?” he started. “We, the Pentecostal body of Christ, are the salt and light of the world.”
Bweyinda who is currently at Golden, a city in Colorado in the United States turned his attention to compromise in some born-again Churches, saying this is one of the reasons many have lost their “independent voice” amid the pandemic.
“We should not be equalized with other religions. We might look similar, but we are not equal. We are the prophetic voice for the nations; we need to understand that. We are not just another religion trying to teach people how to live,” he continued. “We are medicine for the nations. When did the Church lose its power that now we are also surviving like other religions?”
“The Church is the voice of God, and not the voice of the government of Uganda, Kenya or any other country. The church should be the independent voice of God,” Pastor Bweyinda emphasized.
“We are now surviving on philosophy, experience.” “What happened to the present, current power of the Holy Ghost?”
Quoting 2 Kings 17: 24-27, Pastor Bweyinda said the born-again Church must awake, arise and speak more clearly.
He noted that the “virus is carrying something more behind it” hence “its time for the Church to demonstrate its power and take its rightful place.”
Further more, Pastor Bweyinda said he does not agree with the idea of “bringing the Church of Jesus Christ, which is the Pentecostal Church, [into] the Inter-religious council.” “It is a wrong theory,” he said.
He spoke out on President Yoweri Museveni’s recent meeting with the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) on COVID-19, that led to the extension in the lockdown period for the third time.
Bweyinda said that representatives from the Born-again community should have addressed the need for Pastors to pray for COVID-19 patients.
“Jesus Christ is more powerful than the virus.” “Our duty is to pray for the people. Converge Covid-19 patients to Kololo for prayers. It touching them will infect us, put us in protective attire as you do with health practitioners,” he said.
“We are in a time where God is lifting up the Church to the next level. The Church is moving from Glory to Glory. I don’t mind what scientists are saying. I don’t mind what the devil is saying. I don’t mind what governments are saying. One thing I still know is that Jesus is still on the throne,” he said.
